Dear Olivier and all

this is a philosophical position. Human rights is an elastic principle which is subject to the country you live in, your life experiences and the pains you endured, the norms and values you were raised on, and where you fit on Maslow?s hierarchy of needs.

People in the Arabic revolution revolted demanding dignity and freedom, something they had been deprived of for decades and this would be a rightful demand as a human right as they are on the lower lever of Maslow?s HON. however, lack of dignity or freedom is hardly the pain of citizens in the west who are at a higher level of Maslow?s HON. neither will go out to fight bullets to attain ? the human right of internet access? I believe , not today.

If a global common denominator can be created today it most likely would be at the weakest level and human right of internet access will not be included...

so in 2012, I would agree with Vint but 5, maybe 10 years from now this could be totally different.

my 2 cents

http://j.mp/wwL9Ip (New York Times)

"Improving the Internet is just one means, albeit an important one, by
which to improve the human condition. It must be done with an
appreciation for the civil and human rights that deserve protection -
without pretending that access itself is such a right."
