[IRP] a hippocratic oath for internet policy makers and techies

Dear all,

it's an exciting time for Internet Rights and Principles. On Thursday,
the Human Rights Council has adopted a resolution on protecting and
promoting human rights on the Internet, affirming that human rights that
apply offlinen also apply online.

I've written a brief entry on the resolution
(http://internationallawandtheinternet.blogspot.co.at/) and have
suggested that we need to put a bit more flesh on the bones of the
Council's commitment (You can find the resolution here, but it's still
the draft version: https://netzpolitik.org/wp-upload/G1214710.pdf).
That's one important task we can engage in on the basis of our Rights
and Principles in the run-up to the IGF.

The resolution reflects a commitment by states to promote and protect
human rights on the Internet and thus an premised on a conception of
/universal /ethics.

But thanks to Max we now also have a deeply interesting approach to
ensuring ethical policy- and code-making on the Internet, based on an
/individualized /commitment (that, through a broad dissemination becomes
a communal assertion to uphold key human rights standards in online
environments).

Dixie and I are working on the technical aspects of including Max's
hippocratic oath for internet policy makers and techies
<http://maxsenges.com/?p=402> on the Coalition's website, but we would
like to ask you already now to think about the oath, comment on Max's
website and consider taking it. We'll get back to you with the technical
aspects in the very near future.

Kind regards

Matthias
