Dear IRPers,

I just wanted to make a call out, particularly aimed at our IRP members who are not from Europe or the USA -

We have put together a IRP working group to prepare for the IGF, we have nine (wonderful!) volunteers, however all but one of use are based in Europe or the USA. It would be really great if we could have a few volunteers from other parts of the world? A fair geographical spread is not a tokenistic aim, but rather it is important because the priority issues often vary, but also because the experiences that people have of various issues (e.g. copyright, civil society representation in IG etc.) are often impacted by where in the world they come from...

So if you would like to join the group, or would like more information to help you make up your mind, please let me know ASAP!

Best,
Dixie

ALSO, food for thought for all of us attending the next IGF - A group of civil society groups have just released this report "Running scared: Azerbaijan's silenced voices" highlighting the freedom of expression situation in Azerbaijan from 2010 to 2012. The report highlights that although the Internet is largely free from direct censorship, the authorities are attempting to indirectly control expression online through the use of harassment and intimidation against people who are critical of the government and have prominent online presences - and there are signs that the government is beginning to use filtering and blocking mechanisms to control access to websites which challenge government policy or promote democratic reform. The report can be read here: http://www.indexoncensorship.org/Documents/Azerbaijan/12-03-26-azerbaijan.pdf
