Jiew's (formally Chiranuch Premchaiporn) trial for failing to remove user posted comments critical of the Thai King on the Prachatai news website begins today. Ironically, she was arrested on her way home from the Google internet freedom conference following the IGF in September. At the IGF she drew on her personal experiences to speak out convincingly about the need for the protection of intermediaries from liability for user generated content. The Asian Human Rights Commission is calling for observers of the trial.
